Painted in 1919 by Théo Van Rysselberghe. A very pretty small canvas measuring 33 x 55 cm, signed with the monogram and dated in the lower left corner. On its original canvas and very well preserved, the work would benefit from a light cleaning. There are several versions of this subject, painted during the last years of his life. Far removed from the divisionism of the years 1888-1894 and the luminism that followed, the artist worked more on the saturation of the tones applied in flat areas. The material is almost creamy and gives the works of this later period a more subtle delicacy. The price is lagging behind, such a dichotomy is not justified, but the market is always right. Horta sale on Monday 8 September 2025, lot 126, estimate €40,000-60,000. It will be included in the catalogue raisonné being prepared by Olivier Bertrand 🥳 with its original title and complete historical references, as befits a scientific work.
